Is America ready for a Black President?
Barrack Obama seems to be getting the popular vote. He seems to be the new JFK with his promises and a future that seems so much better than the America that we are living in
But is America ready for a black president? Isn’t it possible that his idealism is more because of his lack of experience? Which is worse a President whose grounded on the reality of politics or a President whose head is in the clouds and whose fall, if he does, will drag America into the depths of Hell?
I have nothing against the man and everything that comes out of his mouth is quite inspiring. I want to believe it. But I’ve heard this before. Promises…promises…promises…. Will he be able to deliver these promises?
Then of course he is African-American. Look, I am not a racist and I have issue with him being black. But not all of America thinks like me. Let’s be realistic here…. The south is still filled with red-necks. People may be politically correct everywhere else… they may not be discriminating but they may still have their prejudices kept in locked closets. The young vote is strong and the young vote goes to Obama but the young vote isn’t everything.

Enough of the Bush and Clinton years. New perspectives would be nice. Does McCain really offer anything new and does Obama really provide leadership or experience? I'm finding it difficult to get excite about anyone here and will probably remain undecided until election day.
I believe the power is in Congress anyhow. They control the purse strings, tax us and approve the Judiciary. So my advice is get educated on your Senator and Representative candidates.
As for your initial question, I'd say yes. There are enough specialized blocks of voters now to allow anyone who makes enough vague and non-conflicting promises to get elected. Can anyone fulfill their promises? The cynic in me says no. When the bureaucrats, the likes of the State Department et al, get done looking at the promises, they'll inform the President Elect as to the programs that can be promoted successfully.
One last thing to keep in mind, as a people, we all want to have the government give us what we want as long as someone else pays for it. When we figure out that we are the someone else, we cry about the taxes. How do you like those rebates now? We'll GIVE you free money, we'll tax you more to pay the interest on it. Of course the lower income folks love it because they don't pay the larger portion of the taxes. What's that called again? Oh yeah, Socialism. This was all to clear when a person showed up at my door with a petition for universal health care. "Who's paying for it?", I asked. "Nobody", was the response. I said, "Somebody is paying for it." "Well, the government will pay for it." "So I'll be paying for it." I was told, "No, the government will pay for it." At first I thought the person was just ignorant about how things worked. I replied, "We are the government. Our tax dollars are what the government uses to pay for the programs." The response I received was, "Well, it's obvious you aren't going to sign it, so I'll just go now." I then thought the person was just playing dumb, but I don't know. It's almost scarier thinking the person really didn't get it. We've killed off a half of a generation but we still have the whole tab to pay. Will we ever learn to quit living off ourselves and control spending?
